THE ANCIENT CITY OF GALLIPOLI
Gallipoli is one of the oldest cities in the region of Apulia and was founded by the Greeks in the year 266 B.C. Its original name Kalos-Polis literally means „beautiful city“. The city was conquered by the Romans in later years and ultimately occupied by the Normans, Aragonese and Angionians. The historic seaport Gallipoli is located on the peninsula of Salento in the southernmost part of Apulia. The quaint historic district resembles a museum with its countless churches and monasteries.

The historic district is connected to the mainland by bridge.

A number of other historic cities, such as Lecce, Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca and Porto Cesareo are conveniently located in the nearby area and well worth a visit.

A regional nature preserve offers a relaxing change of pace for all nature lovers.
